Spencer County needs an airport like we need a hole in our heads. The citizens of Spencer County need to make it perfectly clear that this is not a good idea at this time!

VICTORY!
Yes, It's a sweet feeling that the will of the people was heard and listened to by our elected officials. Folks, we dodged a bullet on this one. It's funny that the two or three actual aiport supports are still writing the Magnet with stating that we are all just ignorant. It's not even worth writing back!
Sadly, our neighbors in Oldham County are still working to kill an airport that no one wants. I will leave this site up to provide others working to kill an airport with some ideas.
Folks - just because you haven't heard much about the airport recently, it's not dead. Much like terrorists, the airport proponents will bide their time and strike when you aren't watching and get into your wallet to support their fun. We must get the Airport Board dissolved - period!

Why on earth do we need an airport in Spencer County? Real simple -we don't! So why are we even talking about it? Frankly, I have no idea but since we are, the voice (of reason) within the community needs to be heard.
There's a great saying: "A bad idea, embraced by many, is still a bad idea." The problem here is that this is a bad idea embraced by almost nobody.
Some will say we can't afford NOT to have an airport - My point is that we CAN'T AFFORD to have an airport. We need to put an end to this folly as quickly as possible. The biggest thing to do right now is let your magistrate know how you feel. Call, write or email. Talk to your neighbors and friends; get them onboard too. Together, we can make this NOT happen!

About this site - This site is strictly the opinion of one guy - Jim Michalowski. I have lived in The Views of Elk Creek for about two years now and love this area. I have met a lot of great people who I consider very good friends. My wife and I are very active at Spencer County Middle School. In fact, I just signed up to coordinate the building of the set for the upcoming drama production of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." My wife Chandra both subs and volunteers at the Middle School just about everyday. One thing that needs to be real clear here is that this is not personal. I do not know any of the members of the Airport Board and have nothing personal against any of them or anyone else for that matter. I am not interested in "hacking" their site (I don't know how anyway) or flooding them with bogus requests for information. I certainly respect their opinion and hope they respect mine. I will not engage in name calling or any other childish activity. This is strictly business here. Reading the Spencer Magnet as well as talking to neighbors and friends, it's clear that there are some personal issues going on here. It sure is dissapointing to hear that anyone is threatening someone else because they support or don't support the construction of an airport. Folks still have a right to their opinion regardless of how they feel. Of course, they need to remember that it is just that - their opinion. I fully realize that this entire website is an "opinion." We all know what opinions are like, right? What I want is for the Airport Board to be eliminated and this idea be shelved until the proper time. My issue is simple - (the lack of) money. If money is the root of all evil, the lack of money is a pretty close second. We simply can't afford it right now (that is, unless you want to cough up more taxes). As a nation and as individuals, we need to get our priorities straight. From a fiscal discipline view, we can not continue to just keep spending on things we "want' and ignore things we "need" as we've done in the past. The school district is going through a staff reduction. Talk about mortgaging the future. The future is now folks. We just can't spend money we don't have on something we don't need, even if it would be nice to have, hoping that it all works out in the end.

Of course, there is a glitzy pro airport website (probably paid with your tax dollars). It provides a lot of general info and nothing specific on why an airport is so critical to Spencer County, KY. I do find it interesting that the domain is registered through some proxy outfit in Arizona. Of course, none of that really matters - maybe they got a good deal and are saving a few bucks.
